Regenerative forestry moves beyond sustainable forestry to leave ecosystems in better condition than they were before.

Our regenerative forestry programme builds from basic forest science and silviculture, through to advanced management decision making and operational planning. It is focused on providing participants with the knowledge and confidence to practice regenerative style forestry.

Designed as a 6-month course with three days of training each month, you can also pick and choose the modules most appropriate for you. The course is designed to be accessible to graduates or those with a limited working knowledge of forestry. The pre-requisites for each module are outlined below. All the modules are taught in person by Jens Haufe and include site visits and exercises.

1. Planning a Forest

1.1 Site Assessment & Tree Species Selection

Introductory module on recognising site conditions and selecting the right species for the right site

1.2 Forest Soil Classification & Management Objectives

Advanced module on forest soils and setting appropriate management objectives for the site

2. Starting a Forest

2.1 Forest Establishment

Options to establish a new, or the next generation of trees on site, including early maintenance.

3. Managing a Forest
3.1 Tree Ecology & Thinning Interventions

A look at ecological principles of forestry and conclusions for thinning and other management decisions.

3.2 Timber Measurement & Forest Growth and Yield

The numerical side of forestry. (option to be added later or on demand)

4. Renewing the Forest Cycle

4.1 Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF)

An overview of sustainable ways of timber harvesting, including silvicultural principles and operations design.

5. Forests for the Future
