About TreeStory

At TreeStory, we combine technical forestry expertise with a genuine passion for the natural world. We’re Scotland’s first B-Corp certified forestry consultancy — proud to be a business that is a force for good. We believe well-managed trees, woodlands, and forests make the world a better place.

Our work spans the full woodland lifecycle: strategic planning, woodland creation, maintenance, felling, harvesting, timber marketing, and nature markets including carbon and biodiversity credits. We operate according to the core values set out in our Woodland Charter, which you can read about here.

The Opportunity

We have a significant opportunity for two experienced Forestry Consultants to join our growing team to deliver forestry and habitat restoration projects across Scotland. Our pipeline is expanding and we’re looking for foresters who want to own projects from the outset — managing client relationships, driving delivery, and shaping outcomes.

Our Forestry Consultants lead projects and are responsible for upholding our core values in the field. Their role encompasses everything needed to take a project from initial concept, through site surveys, planning, mapping, document preparation, regulatory approval to operational supervision.

We work collaboratively across all our projects, but you will have accountability for your own project portfolio and be a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders. You’ll work closely with our assistant foresters, playing an active role in their development as they grow their skills and experience. Senior colleagues are available as a sounding board, and we invest in the professional development of everyone in the team.

Key responsibilities
  • Development and delivery of detailed project plans; managing the full workflow from initial survey through to regulatory submission and operational supervision.
  • Delivering site survey work, mapping, document preparation and operational supervision, taking ownership of quality and progress.
  • Communicating with the client or stakeholders about day-to-day operational activities.
  • Line managing between one and three assistant consultants, supporting their day-to-day work, professional development, and wellbeing.
  • Using our project management software, Asana, to plan, track, and report across your portfolio.
  • Contributing your insight and ideas at company meetings.
Key qualities
  • At least 2 years’ post-qualification experience in forestry.
  • A demonstrable background in and passion for regenerative forest management.
  • Preference for working for an ambitious, purpose driven consultancy.
  • Genuine alignment with TreeStory’s mission and the B-Corp ethos of business as a force for good.
  • Willing to challenge standard practice and bring fresh thinking to your work.
  • Committed to continual learning and development, and prepared to experiment.
  • A motivated team player, keen to help and encourage all team members.
  • Comfortable adopting new technology; proficiency in Microsoft Office and QGIS (or similar GIS) is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of what good communication means for our brand.
  • Comfortable adapting plans when the real world requires.
  • Be a professional member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or be working towards professional membership.
  • A qualification in professional tree inspection is desirable.
  • Able to carry out extended site visits on foot in remote locations and in all weather conditions.
  • A full UK driving license is essential.

We welcome applications from candidates who may require reasonable adjustments.
